Since long there was good demand for a technical educational institution of excellent standards within the state itself, and Mahatma Gandhi University undertook this mission long back and hence job oriented professional courses were started well back in 1993. Our institution is a fruit matured out of this highly motivated mission.

The institution is situated at a remote rural area in a village called Thalappady over a sprawling area of 14.3 acres, a place in the Legislative Assembly Constituency of Puthuppally represented by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Shri. Oommen Chandy. The Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences has been upgraded to the P G level with two year M. Pharm course since 2010 in three disciplines (namely Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, & Pharmaceutical Chemistry) and the total student strength has been raised from 240 to 300 students.

The Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences striving hard to become a ‘centre of excellence’ by imparting/ providing quality Pharmacy education has been engaging in active research in frontier areas of Pharmaceutical Sciences. We have already implemented various projects by receiving research grants from AICTE (MODROBS) and KSCSTE. We intend to have research programme leading to Ph. D in future to cater the needs of recent trends of research in pharmacy. The institution has well equipped labs with most modern machineries, sophisticated analytical equipments and a well furnished CPCSEA approved animal house for animal storing and qualified personnel with animal handling skills. The institutional library is well furnished with updated reference books, adequate text books for circulation, reading space and digital library facilities; there by providing a quite student friendly atmosphere. We also have a fully fledged digital library along high speed internet connectivity.

The department placement cell assists the students in finding suitable placements after completion of the course. The department is also having a welfare association (PTA), Alumni association and a social forum, blood donor’s forum, to take care of student’s welfare. The social forum has plans with objectives to give students a social orientation and to instill a sense of social commitment in them. The community linkages of these forums help the students to have compassion towards fellow human and also to love nature. Our legacy lies with the fact that, a large number of former students are gainfully placed at key levels in the leading global giants of Pharmaceutical Industry, Hospital Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy, and Clinical Trials in India and abroad.

MASTER PLAN FOR CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT

The college projects are planned to go hand in hand with the requirements of the state of Kerala. A super specialty hospital and bio medical research (one of its kinds) is under phase I of development by the University.

As Pharmacy education in India is mainly oriented to industrial side, it is essential for us to have a full fledged pilot plant. An approved drug testing Laboratory along with a toxicity and poison testing centre which will be accessible to other institutions and general public is also under consideration. The instruments of the department can be utilized for fund generation as well as for the benefit of the common man.
